A Neighbor’s Recommendation Turned Into Long-Term Protection in Cherry Valley, Pennsylvania

Some of our the best roofing projects begin with a simple conversation on the side of the road at an active jobsite.

While we were installing a roof for a homeowner down the street, a neighbor stopped by our job site to ask a few questions about her own home. She had noticed shingles on the steep sections of her roof beginning to slide out of place a sign that the shingles had become brittle over time and that the adhesive seal strips had started to fail.

This wasn’t an insurance claim. It was a homeowner who knew something wasn’t right and wasn’t sure where to turn next.

She was already familiar with Overmyer Roofing. Over the years, she had seen us throughout the community and knew of our involvement with the local vocational-technical school, where we regularly volunteer time and support students entering the trades. That familiarity gave her the confidence to reach out.

We visited her home shortly after and found multiple areas where the shingles had lost their bond and were no longer properly secured especially on the steeper roof slopes. Knowing winter was approaching, we first focused on temporary repairs, securing loose shingles and stabilizing the roof to safely get the home through the colder months.

Once spring arrived, we returned to complete a full roof replacement.

A Thoughtful Upgrade for a Home They Built Themselves

This home, located in Cherry Valley, Pennsylvania, was built by the homeowner and her husband a place they had poured time, care, and pride into. Our goal was not just to replace the roof, but to install a system that would protect that investment for decades to come.

The installation itself was straightforward but detailed, with a few important homeowner requests:

● New skylights with solar-powered, room-darkening blinds

● Replacement of a worn and rotted garage cupola

● Roofing for two smaller outbuildings on the property

During tear-off, we also discovered a few sections of plywood that had sustained water damage. Those areas were removed and replaced as needed to ensure a solid foundation for the new roofing system.

We rebuilt the roof using a complete CertainTeed system, including:

● Ice & water barrier

● Synthetic underlayment

● CertainTeed SwiftStart starter shingles

● CertainTeed Landmark Pro architectural shingles

● New ridge ventilation

● Shadow Ridge caps to properly seal the ridge

The home’s aluminum fascia trim was also re-fastened around the perimeter to ensure everything was secure and finished cleanly.

Confidence Backed by the Industry’s Strongest Warranty

The final result was a beautifully finished roof system not just on the main home, but on the two outbuildings as well all protected by CertainTeed’s industry-leading, manufacturer-backed warranties covering both materials and installation.

Most importantly, this homeowner no longer had to worry about shingles slipping, seals failing, or hidden damage getting worse over time. What began as a quick question at a nearby job site turned into long-term peace of mind.
